India’s Semiconductor Moment
India is building a full semiconductor ecosystem, not just chip factories. Design and electronics manufacturing are already strong, while fabrication and advanced packaging are scaling fast, largely around Gujarat’s Sanand–Dholera cluster. The government’s India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) is the engine behind it: ISM 1.0 (December 2021) committed ₹76,000 crore, and ISM 2.0, approved in July 2026, adds ₹1,27,500 crore across equipment, materials, gases, design, R&D and skilled manpower.
